Hopkinton Planning Board approved permanent removal of a Winter Street stone wall and debated whether a new economic plan can cut taxes.
Planning Board · Meeting of September 15, 2026
Hopkinton Planning Board approved permanent removal of a Winter Street stone wall and debated whether a new economic plan can cut taxes. The board voted 9-0 for an after-the-fact scenic road permit letting homeowner Arunas keep a stone planter removed from 47 Winter Street, over member Amna Dwan's objection that "there's no public safety reports that we know of." Earlier, member Rob Benson pressed a Metropolitan Area Planning Council consultant on the town's new economic development plan, noting the average residential tax bill is $14,140 and warning the plan "is not going to move the needle in people's taxes in a meaningful way." The board also heard an early-stage affordable housing proposal for a seven-acre, town-owned Fruit Street parcel requiring at least 10 percent deed-restricted units, and separately approved removal of a decaying maple tree on West Main Street.
