Hopkinton Library Closes Lower Level for Recarpeting Project
HOPKINTON — The Hopkinton Public Library's lower level closed Monday for a recarpeting project that will limit services through Sept. 8, while Hopkinton Public Schools flagged a review of grade groupings for the 2027-2028 school year.

Hopkinton Public Schools this week posted a notice titled "2027-2028 Grade Reconfiguration," indicating the district is examining how grade levels are grouped across its elementary, middle and high schools starting two years from now. The district had not published further detail beyond the headline as of Monday.
The district's back-to-school calendar otherwise holds steady: staff have a professional development day Sept. 1, students in grades 1 through 12 return Sept. 2, and kindergartners start the following day, Sept. 3.

The Hopkinton Public Library's lower level closed Monday, Aug. 31, and will remain shut through Tuesday, Sept. 8, as crews replace carpeting in that section of the building. The library said the work will also require delayed openings on select dates: the building opens at 1 p.m. on Sept. 8 and at 10 a.m. on Sept. 11. The library's regular Scrabble and Mahjong group, set for 6 p.m. Monday, was canceled because of the closure, though a virtual program, "The Democracy We Must Keep: Why the Ideas that Built America Still Matter," went ahead as scheduled at 2 p.m.
