Hopkinton Students Return to Class September 2

Hopkinton Public Schools will welcome staff back for the first day of the school year on Monday, August 31, with students returning Wednesday, September 2, as the district also confirmed plans for a Labor Day break and a staggered kindergarten and preschool start.

TOWN HALL

Town Hall is operating on its regular schedule this week, with hours varying by day from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with an extended evening hours day and a shortened Friday closing at 2 p.m. The most recent Town Manager Weekly Update was posted August 27, continuing the office's regular Thursday cadence of resident briefings on town operations.

SCHOOLS

Hopkinton Public Schools confirmed its opening calendar this week: staff report for a professional development day on August 31, with a second PD day September 1. Students in grades 1 through 12 return Wednesday, September 2, while kindergarten students start Thursday, September 3, alongside a Senior Sunrise event for the Class of 2027 scheduled that morning from 6 to 8 a.m. Preschool students begin the following week, on September 8. The district has no school September 4 and observes Labor Day on September 7.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Hopkinton Public Library continues preparations for its lower-level carpeting project, with the library closed the morning of August 31 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and reference department and study rooms shut for maintenance that day. Delayed openings are also planned for September 8 and September 11.

Two upcoming library programs stand out for residents this week: a virtual talk titled "The Democracy We Must Keep: Why the Ideas that Built America Still Matter" on September 1 from 2 to 3 p.m., and a library outreach visit to Fairview Estates on September 2 from 10 a.m. to noon. The library's regular Scrabble and Mahjong group session on September 1 has been canceled.

The Hopkinton Public Library hosts its virtual civics program September 1 from 2 to 3 p.m., and its outreach team visits Fairview Estates September 2 from 10 a.m. to noon. Babytime returns to the Children's Programming Room September 4 from 9:15 to 10 a.m. Hopkinton Public Schools students return for the first day of classes September 2, with kindergarten starting September 3 and preschool beginning September 8. Schools are closed September 4 and again September 7 for Labor Day.
