Library Rolls Out Storytime, Chess and Mahjong This Week
HOPKINTON — With Town Hall's News Flash feed quiet and no new district announcements posted, the Hopkinton Public Library's packed activity calendar carried the day's local news, alongside continued town preparations tied to the Elmwood School study.
TOWN HALL
The town's most recent substantive update remains the Elmwood School Study, for which officials are surveying resident interest, part of ongoing work tied to the Elmwood School Project and broader facilities planning. The Town Manager's weekly updates, posted regularly on the town website, continue to serve as the primary window into Select Board and department activity, though no new update had posted as of this week's coverage window. The town also continues recruiting community input as part of its search for a new police chief, an effort town officials opened to residents and business owners in recent weeks.
SCHOOLS
Hopkinton Public Schools' website highlighted ongoing capital projects, including the Charleswood School Project and the Hopkins School Addition, as areas of continued district planning. The district's most recent formal communications on file include the Superintendent's Entry Findings from March and a May memo to families, with the FY27 budget "flip book" also posted for residents wanting a detailed look at district finances.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The Hopkinton Public Library kept up a full slate of programming this week. Tuesday's lineup included Baby & Toddler Storytime at 10 a.m., a Chess Club session at 4 p.m., and the Scrabble Group and Mahjong Group gathering from 6 to 7:30 p.m., all in library meeting spaces. The library noted its previously scheduled Drop-In CreatorSpace Hours for the evening was canceled.
Looking just beyond, Preschool Storytellers is set for Wednesday morning, followed by a Mario Kart Tournament for grades 5-9 in the afternoon. The library also spotlighted its June Guest Librarian picks, courtesy of Ian Richardson of the Town Clerk's office and Human Resources, who shared horror recommendations with patrons, and reminded residents of its Adventure Passes program offering discounted access to cultural sites statewide, made possible through the Friends of Hopkinton Public Library.
