HOPKINTON — The Hopkinton Select Board voted to approve hiring two new police officers. Kevin Sager, a Hopkinton native who previously worked for the department starting in 2021 before a stint in the private sector, and Derek Mendez, who came from Quincy Community College, were approved in a 4-0 roll call vote of Joe Clark, Matt Kizner, Amy Ritterbusch and Shahidul H. Mannan. Sager said he missed "the community, the people, fellow coworkers" during his time away from municipal work.
Mendez described active shooter training that "run simulation rounds and we do live scenarios with actual bad guys and wear full gear," which board members linked to the town's concentration of schools.
