Town Meeting · Meeting of October 27, 2026
Hopkinton's special town meeting dissolved for lack of quorum after voters rejected returning annual town meeting to weekday evenings. Town Moderator Zach Kosan ended the session 78-19 once a headcount showed 127 voters present, short of the 131 needed. Earlier, voters rejected accepting roughly seven miles of private roads as public ways by a recorded 57 percent to 43 percent, with Select Board member Matt Kisner warning the town is "facing down a $5.6 million budget deficit." Voters instead approved, 95-58, a study of plowing private roads under state law, and raised the private-way minor repair spending cap from $1,000 to $2,000 on a 113-49 vote.
The meeting also cut the fiscal 2027 general fund appropriation from $132,387,571 to $130,215,438.
